Is the July 2, 2019 Total Solar Eclipse visible in Chile?

July's Solar Eclipse 2019 will be visible in Chile as a total and partial eclipse depending on the location you are on.. Totality will be visible on the north of Coquimbo Region and small parts of southern Atacama Region. Cities in the totality path include Coquimbo, La Higuera, La Serena
The rest of the country will see partial eclipse of the sun but even on the southernmost parts of the continental Chile (Puenta Arenas) more than 40% of the sun disc will be obscured by the Moon. North of the Chile (Arica y Parinacota) will experience 60-64% of obscuration. The capital city of Chile - Santiago will witness about 92% of obscuration.

Where is the best place to see Total Solar Eclipse in Chile?

The best spots to see total eclipse in Chile lay in the center of the darkest red area on the map (see the map below) - this is the place where the totality duration is the longest. So, the best places are in the vicinity of La Higuera (totality time in La Higuera is 2 minutes and 36 seconds) or somewhere on the northern part of the Route 41, Chile (totality time 2:33). But don't worry if you are in La Serena or Coquimbo, the totality duration of the eclipse is little shorter but still impressive (totality time is more then 2 minutes)

What time is the Eclipse in Chile?

The partial eclipse will begin in southern part of the country few minutes past 15 (3pm) of the local time (CLT - Continental Chile Time = UTC-4) and will end at about 16:30. Northern parts of the country will see the beginning of the partial eclipse at about 15:30 CLT (3:30pm). It will end cirka 17:50 CLT (5:50pm). Total eclipse in Coquimbo Region will start at 16:38 CLT (4:38pm) and will take up to 2 minutes and 36 seconds depending on the location.
